Toastmastering Lessons from the Best

The epitome of a public speaker, Past District Governor (PDG) Baby Luat, DTM, treated the Metro Manila Toastmasters Club (MMTMC) to a heartfelt discourse on her inspiring journey as a Toastmaster. Theluat1 occasion was the October 27, 2008 meeting of the MMTMC at Sulo Hotel, which was attended by close to 30 members and guests. By mining the depths of her 30+ years’ experience as a Toastmaster, PDG Baby Luat answered the questions: Why am I in Toastmasters, what’s in it for me?

“Toastmasters is the best gift you can give yourself,” PDG Baby Luat emphasized. “Nobody has become successful without knowing how to communicate effectively. And that’s what Toastmasters teaches you.”

Looking back at the start of her own public speaking journey, PDG Baby Luat recalled that she was once the youngest delegate in a Dale Carnegie course and she resolved then to participate and excel in all the impromptu speaking activities. This resulted in her garnering the most prizes among the course participants, besting even her husband who attended the course before her. She then joined a Toastmasters Club where she hit her stride in public speaking. The fruition of her (more…)
